Therapy is a safe place, a no judgement zone, to process and develop an understanding of our emotions, learn skills to manage our emotions and develop stronger relationships.
What is the first step I need to take to get my child signed up for therapy services at Resilience Therapy?
The first step is to call Susie Munsey for a free 15 minute consultation over the phone. Together you will discuss the counseling services she has to offer, your family’s needs and answer any questions you have. If it is a good fit, then your first appointment, which is called an intake can be scheduled.

What do I tell my young child about going to therapy?
It may be helpful to say something like, “We are going to visit a nice lady that is a helper for children who may have lots of different feelings about lots of different things. She is called a therapist. A doctor helps us learn about and take care of our bodies so we are healthy. Similarly, a therapist helps us learn about and take care of our emotions like when we are sad or worried. The therapist may ask you questions, do activities with you, teach you new skills and you will play together. You can talk to her about anything you’re feeling or experiencing.”
As a parent, will I know what’s going on in individual therapy sessions with my child?
Your therapist will communicate with you about goals, general themes and progress in therapy if your child is having individual sessions. Children benefit the most in therapy from having a trusted individual work with them. That trust is built through showing them that therapy is a safe place because the therapist is someone who will not tell their parents what they say and how they feel without their consent. If there is information shared that reflects a danger to themselves or someone else, the therapist will inform parents and the appropriate authorities as necessary. One of the ultimate goals in therapy is to increase communication among family members. Your therapist will encourage your child to share feelings and thoughts with you in treatment but it will never be forced.
What is teletherapy and does Resilience Therapy offer it?
Telethearpy allows a client to connect to their therapist via a HIPPA compliant secure internet portal providing live video and audio. This mode of therapy can be helpful to those unable to attend in-person sessions regularly. Teletherapy has been a helpful way to maintain consistent services during Covid-19.
Yes, I offer teletherapy for intakes, individual and family therapy sessions. This can be done on a phone, tablet, or computer.
Will my insurance cover our sessions? How does that work?
Understanding therapy, insurance, and payment can be confusing. If at any time you want my help, just let me know. I don’t directly bill your insurance for a number of reasons. Mostly it is because I want you to have complete control over your records.
Insurance is an agreement between you and your insurance company as to how therapy will be paid for. Most insurances want the patient to be diagnosed and usually dictate what type of therapy and how many sessions you can have. At Resilience Therapy, I believe in normalizing the need to process life difficulties, learn coping skills to manage emotional struggles and build resilience in children’s lives, not just labeling them with a diagnosis. I believe that treatment needs should be decided between you and your therapist.
I will assist you in any way possible. I currently do not participate with insurance plans. However, I will assist you by providing documentation (a superbill) required to seek reimbursement from your insurance, if desired. Direct pay for services can be paid for with an hsa card, credit card, cash or check.

I don’t feel like my child has a major problem. Can they still benefit from therapy?
Yes! Therapy can help develop social/emotional learning including emotion expression, emotion regulation, developing positive coping and communication skills, and developing healthy relationships. Learning these valuable life skills are helpful before there is a major problem and can often help manage a small problem so it does not deteriorate further.

What do I do in case of an emergency?
