Susie Munsey, LCSW

I provide counseling to children, teens and young adults (ages 5-24). I am a nationally certified Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. I find it very meaningful to help children and teens heal from past trauma and I feel honored to be a witness to their strength and resilience. I have extensive training and a deep passion for working with children and families experiencing grief. In addition to grief and trauma, I also love supporting children through anxiety, depression, anger issues, self-esteem issues, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. I enjoy building relationships with parents so that they can grow and feel supported throughout the therapeutic process. I have partnered with many families to provide their children with coping abilities to get through various life difficulties and emotional challenges.

I am a warm, accepting, and empathic therapist, dedicated to assisting my clients to achieve their therapeutic goals. I am intentional in creating a relaxed environment, developing a trusting relationship, adapting to individual needs, and providing clear communication. I believe that laughter and fun are important parts of healing from life’s difficulties.

I am the Clinical Director and Founder of Resilience Therapy. I am dedicated to helping the Tucson community and feel so passionate about providing quality care that parents can trust for their kids’ emotional wellness. I’m currently focusing on growing my team of excellent clinicians and investing in their development. I’m also a mom, and a native Arizonan, and I love dogs!

“Susie Munsey was absolutely wonderful for my daughter. She was kind, thoughtful, kept my daughter engaged by utilizing her talents in art, and provided her with the right tools to help outside of therapy. Mrs. Munsey outlined goals and objectives and communicated very well with updates. It was a positive experience for sure. Thank you! “- Diana W.

Hi there! As a Licensed Social Worker, I provide dedicated counseling for children, teens, and young adults (ages 5–24). I believe that healing happens in the context of a safe, collaborative environment. In times of stress or heavy emotions, it is easy to lose touch with the body, a sense of belonging, and a sense of safety. My goal is to offer a soft landing, a space where clients can slow down, feel deeply seen and heard, and use curiosity rather than judgment to examine patterns and process past experiences. I have always connected well with children and young adults who feel like they do not quite fit the mold. Many of the individuals I work with might be labeled as sensitive, unique, or overthinkers, and can be incredibly hard on themselves, are battling perfectionism, dealing with anxiety, anger, or depression, or struggling in the school environment. I am here to help them build self-acceptance, connection, and a sense of belonging. For clients who are initially hesitant about therapy, I specialize in meeting them right where they are. I believe that therapy should never feel clinical or intimidating to anyone; instead, my practice is intentionally designed to be a comfortable, low-pressure environment where clients can show up exactly as they are, whether that means sitting on the floor, moving around, or communicating through play. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and multidisciplinary. Because clients and families are the experts on their own lives, my care is primarily person-centered, incorporating different techniques based on individual preferences. I frequently draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and play-based therapy to help clients navigate anxiety, depression, life transitions, and trauma. As someone who appreciates fun and staying active, I also incorporate movement-based activities to enhance mindfulness and body awareness. Together, we will identify strengths, explore how the environment shapes a person’s story, and center the client’s own definition of well-being. I am here to help children, teens, and young adults unpack the emotions and experiences they have been carrying and move toward a greater sense of safety, authenticity, and connection.

Katie was able to engage families who had historically been disconnected and created safe spaces for parents and children to experience meaningful healing. I recalled a time when she went out of her way to learn about Dungeons & Dragons to effectively connect with a teenage client who was very reluctant to engage in therapy. She has continued to connect with clients through their interests” – Rebbeca Branstetter (former supervisor)

I am currently accepting clients! I’m available Friday and Saturday!

I am a Licensed Associated Counselor (LAC) and Registered Drama Therapist (RDT), available to provide counseling to children, teens and young adults, ages 5 through 24.  I also have experience with Psychodrama and Narradrama. I am a Team-CBT Level 2 clinician.

My passion for working with youth started in the classroom as a kindergarten teacher in Philadelphia.  I then became a teacher of English Language Arts, History and Theatre to 4 through 16 year olds for a decade in eastern Massachusetts and New York City.  Most recently, I have worked as a Certified School Counselor in Tucson and Green Valley.  I enjoy helping children bridge the gap between academic struggles and social/emotional challenges, so that they can become more confident learners, improve peer relationships and thrive at home.

I believe in the power of play and how it can help transform a child’s ability to identify their feelings, set goals and ultimately feel more empowered in relation to their own choices, even at a young age.  I am consistent in my team approach to working with all families.  I am a patient, compassionate and creative therapist who works in earnest to address the unique needs of each individual with whom I work to ensure they reach their goals. I use foundational Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concepts to help clients explore the connections between their thoughts, feelings, and actions.  This allows individuals of all ages to reach the root cause of their challenges and become an agent of change.  I integrate creative elements—including bibliotherapy, journaling, expressive writing, music, movement, play, and art therapy—into my therapeutic practice.  I individualize sessions based on a client’s hobbies, interests, and therapy goals to engage them as dynamically as possible.  I also embrace a strengths-based approach to recognize each individual’s innate gifts in the therapy environment and to empower clients to embody more positive self-talk and overall confidence. I enjoy using innovative therapeutic tools, from painting to poetry, in my counseling work in order to add depth to traditional talk therapy.

I am also a devoted mom and enjoy cooking, hiking and listening to podcasts in my free time.

Hello and welcome!I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) who is grateful to be fulfilling my passion in working with children and young adults (ages 5-24). I love to engage collaboratively with children and families and I feel honored to be a part of their growth and self-enhancement. I know getting started with therapy can induce nervousness and I take great pride in creating a safe space that is collaborative, creative, inviting, accessible, and trauma informed. Therapy is a space where we can explore concerns and it is also a place to be reminded of your child’s strengths and resilience.

My passion for working with children began as a volunteer at a local children’s shelter in Tucson. This passion has continued in my career in working with children with Autism and in various Children’s Advocacy Centers. I have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Additionally, I am a proud Tucson native and a Mexican American woman who can communicate fluently with families in Spanish through speaking, reading, and writing. I believe in providing quality services to all members of our diverse community.

Using CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), EMDR, and creative interventions, I have an immense passion that involves helping children and families through anxiety, emotional regulation, self-esteem concerns, and life transitions. I believe therapy is not a one-size fits all approach, and I take my time in creating a space in which clients and families feel comfortable, supported, and safe. My light continues to grow as I witness children and families build resilience through healing from their difficult life experiences.

EMDR is a helpful therapy intervention that can help lessen many distressing symptoms (i.e. panic, worry, anxiety), and I specialize in helping individuals with anxiety to help unravel worries. We work on unlocking some of those negative memories that cause individuals to get stuck and we reduce their intensity. As such, we begin to see anxiety lessen and become more manageable. New, helpful and positive thought processes can emerge. I enjoy seeing my client’s symptoms related to anxiety subside as we embark on our EMDR journey. Contact us if you are interested to see if you are a good fit for EMDR or CBT.

I am accepting new clients!  I am available Monday/Tuesday.

“My daughter has been coming to see Celina for several months now and adores her. It is so nice to have a therapist that my child enjoys and looks forward to seeing. Celina has helped my daughter become more focused and has given her valuable tools to use in managing her emotions. Celina is so kind and gentle with her and makes her feel welcome and safe whenever they are together. I would recommend resilience therapy to anyone who needed therapy services, especially for young children.” – Jessica G.
